PFUJ calls for legal action against those harassing Asma Sherazi

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has taken serious notice of the online attack, trolling, and harassment of senior journalist and presenter Asma Sherazi by PTI federal cabinet members, leaders, and workers, which is condemnable and must be taken up by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

In a joint statement, President PFUJ Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi, while condemning the act, said it is unprecedented that officials who are supposed to implement the law and follow the legal course are indulging in an online attack, trolling, and harassment of Asma Sherazi

“Even official Twitter account of ruling political party (PTI) has been used which is endorsement and evidence of party policy of PTI,” they said.

They urged the party leadership to take immediate steps to stop such attacks on female journalists who are dispensing their professional responsibilities. “We request Prime Minister Imran Khan to intervene and direct FIA to investigate and take legal action against those trolling Asma Sherazi.”

PFUJ leadership said one might disagree with the writing of journalists, but no one has the right to harass female journalists and media workers.
